Ojoceratops fowleri
(Fowler's Ojo Alamo Horned Face)Etymology
Ojoceratops is derived from "ojo" (for the Ojo Alamo Formation where it was found) and the Greek "ceras" (horn) and "ops" (face). The species epithet, fowleri, honours Ph.D. student Denver Fowler who found the holotype and many of the referred specimens.
Discovery
The first remains of Ojoceratops were discovered in the Naashoibito Member of the Ojo Alamo formation at SMP Locality 410b, Willow Wash, San Juan basin, New Mexico, by Denver Fowler in 2005. The holotype (SMP VP-1865) is a cheek bone (left squasmosal). Many more skull fragments from the same general area were assigned to Ojoceratops, mainly because they shared a similar surface texture.
