Bashanosaurus primitivus

(Bashan Lizard)Etymology
Bashanosaurus is derived from "Bashan" (in reference to the ancient name for the area of Chongqing in China where it was found) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard). The species epithet, primitivus, means "first" in Latin.
Discovery
The first remains of Bashanosaurus were discovered in the Lower Member of the Shaximiao Formation at Laojun Village, Pu'an Township, Yunyang County, Chongqing Municipality, People's Republic of China, in 2016. The quarry was excavated systematically to form a wall of dinosaur fossils (Puan "Dinosaur Wall") 150-m long and 8-m high.
The holotype (CLGPR V00006-1, preserved on the west side of the wall) includes one back vertebra, two tail vertebrae, the right shoulder girdle, a left thigh, shin and calf, one metatarsal, three pieces of armour plate, and some ribs.
Referred specimens include five back vertebrae, a right shin and calf, one piece of armour plate, and some ribs (CLGPR V00006-2, preserved in the middle of the wall, 50-m from the holotype), and a back vertebra (CLGPR V00006-3, preserved on the east side of the wall, 70-m from CLGPR V00006-2).
