Daurlong is derived from "Daur" (for the Daur Nation: one of the 56 officially recognised ethnic groups of China who mostly live in Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner) and the Chinese "long" (dragon).
The
species epithet,
wangi, honours Mr Wang Junyou, director of the Inner Mongolia Museum of Natural History in Hohhot, China.

Discovery
The remains of
Daurlong were discovered in the Longjiang Formation at Pigeon Hill, Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner, Inner Mongolia, China.
The
holotype (IMMNH-PV00731) is an almost complete individual, with a length of about 150 cm, preserved on a stone slab, alongside a partial frog skeleton.
