Etymology
Camptosauridae is derived from the Greek "kamptos" (bent/flexible), "sauros" (lizard) and "-idae" (family), named for group anchor Camptosaurus dispar — the flexible lizard — whose "sacral vertebra are not co-ossified" (Marsh, 1879) but were presumed to be flexible because of "peculiar peg-and-notch articulation" (Marsh, 1894).
