Etymology
Alvarezsauroidea is derived from Alvarezsaurus—which is itself derived from "Alvarez" (for the historian Don Gregorio Alvarez, not the more familiar physicist Luis Alvarez, or his son Walter) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard)—and the Latin "oidea" (like, resembling, form).
